Hardware Profile
Introduction
A Hardware Profile stores the configuration related information of the physical hardware peripherals connected to your POS Terminal. For Example, Barcode Scanner, Printer, Pole Display, Customer Facing Display etc
1. Steps to create a Hardware Profile
The steps to create a Hardware Profile are explained below:
Step 1. Navigate to Home > Retail and then click on the Hardware Profile shortcut. This will open the Hardware Profile Master screen.
Step 2. Click on the Add Hardware Profile button in the top right corner. This will open the New Hardware screen. All the settings pertaining to the hardware peripherals attached to your POS Terminal configured here on this screen.
2. New Hardware Profile Screen
The various fields in the New Hardware Profile screen are explained below:
Details Tab
The Details Tab is the default tab. However the other tabs appear based on the hardware peripherals attached to the hardware terminal.
In the screenshot above we can see 2 additional tabs - Printer and Pole Display. Let’s suppose you attach a Customer Facing Display to your POS Terminal, in that case you would see another tab appear on the New Hardware Profile screen called Customer Facing Display The Details Tab has the following fields:
Code
New Hardware Profile accordion. Specify a code for your New Hardware Profile. This field is mandatory.
Description
Provide a description for your New Hardware Profile. Give it a name seeing which you know which POS Terminal it is bound to. For Example, we have specified the name as - Hardware Profile - Looney Tunes Terminal, where Looney Tunes is the name of my POS Terminal
Printer Tab
The Printer Tab has the following fields:
Has Printer
Check this box if there is a Printer attached to the POS Terminal.
Printer Name for Transactions
This is a text field. Specify a name for the printer attached to your POS Terminal.
Render Width
Is Cash Drawer Attached
Check this box if there is a Cash Drawer attached to the POS Terminal.
Pole Display Tab
The Pole Display Tab has the following fields:
Port
This is a text field. Specify the Port number to which the printer is attached.
Baud Rate
This is a text field. Specify the Baud Rate. It is the speed of the port responsible for data transmission.
Data Bits
This is a text field. Specify the Data Bits value.
Stop Bits
This is a text field. Specify the Stop Bits value.
Parity
This is a text field. Specify a name for the printer
Flow Control
This is a text field. Specify a name for the printer
Encoding
This is a text field. Specify a name for the printer
Welcome Message
Specify the message that you want to be displayed on the Pole Display. This message can extend up to 2 lines - Line 1 and Line 2. For Example, Welcome to ACME Retail Store.
Transaction End Message
Specify the message that you want to be displayed on the Pole Display upon transaction completion. This message can extend up to 2 lines - Line 1 and Line 2.
Transaction Message
Specify the message that you want to be displayed on the Pole Display to indicate an ongoing transaction. This message can extend up to 2 lines - Line 1 and Line 2.
Port Settings
Port settings can be left at the default values or can be changed as per Pole Display Device User Manual. By default, the values for all the fields of Port Settings are as follows:
Bits per Second: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Stop Bits: 1
Parity: None
Flow Control: None
Encoding: UTF-8
You can also create a Hardware Profile from the New POS Terminal Screen. On the Hardware Profile Name text field, you can either select a Hardware Profile from the list of Hardware Profiles displayed or choose to create a new Hardware Profile by clicking on the Create a new Hardware Profile option.
