The Mobile POS opens on a sign-in screen, titled "Sign in to sell". There are three ways in: your Associate ID and PIN, a staff badge, or your back-office password. Which ones you see depends on what your store has switched on. The Associate ID and PIN form is open by default, because it is the route most people on the floor use.
Prerequisites
- The app is installed on the device, or open in the browser at your store's web address. See Getting Started.
- You have one of: an Associate ID and a PIN; a staff badge (if your store issues them); or a back-office password.
- For badge scanning: the device has a camera or a connected scanner, camera access is allowed for the app, and the address is a secure (HTTPS) one.
Signing in with your Associate ID and PIN
This is the form that opens by default.
- In Associate ID, type your ID. The field shows the hint Your Associate ID until you type.
- In Associate PIN, type your PIN.
- Confirm to sign in.
If the ID and PIN do not match, the app says so and leaves you on the form to try again. Your badge and your password stay available below as other ways in.
Signing in with a staff badge
If your store issues staff badges, the badge option appears at the top of the sign-in screen, with the ID and PIN form open beneath it.
- Raise your badge to the device's camera, or scan it with a connected scanner.
- You are signed in, with no typing.
If a badge is not recognized, the app tells you and invites you to type your ID and PIN instead.
If badge scanning will not start
The app names the reason in one line and offers a way through. There are four causes, each with its own message:
- Camera access is switched off for the app. Allow camera access, or type your ID and PIN.
- The device has no camera. Use a connected scanner, or type your ID and PIN.
- The address is not secure. Camera scanning needs a secure (HTTPS) connection. Type your ID and PIN instead.
- It is the first scan and the device has never connected. Scanning needs a connection the first time. Type your ID and PIN, or reconnect once.
Signing in with your password
Below the PIN form is a quieter row, Use your password instead, with the note for anyone who signs in to the back office too. It is always there, and it is never taken away.
- Select Use your password instead.
- Enter your account password.
- Select Sign in with password.
This is the route for anyone who also signs in to the back office, and for anyone who has not been given a PIN yet. If the details are wrong, the app reports an incorrect ID or password.
Field reference
| Field | Meaning | What to enter |
|---|---|---|
| Associate ID | Your operator ID for the floor. | Your Associate ID. The field hint reads Your Associate ID. |
| Associate PIN | The PIN paired with your Associate ID. Also unlocks the till during an outage. | Your PIN. You set or change it yourself in Preferences; it works on any device in the store. |
| Password (password path only) | Your back-office account password. | The same password you use to sign in to the back office. |
What can stop a sign-in
A few conditions are refused on purpose. Knowing them saves a support call:
- The Administrator account cannot use a PIN. Only the single built-in Administrator account is refused here. Managers and other operators can set and use a PIN like anyone else.
- PIN sign-in on a phone that has never connected. A device needs one connected sign-in before it can take a PIN offline. Until then, use a badge or your password.
- The account needs two-factor sign-in, or password sign-in is switched off for the site. These are set in the back office and apply beyond the Mobile POS.
- Too many wrong attempts. After repeated wrong entries there is a short cooldown before you can try again.
One person, one live till
You can be signed in on only one device at a time. If you sign in on a second device, the first one tells you the session has moved to the new device and stops. This keeps a single basket from being split across two phones, with half a sale on each. To move back, sign in again on the first device.
When the app locks itself
If the device is left untouched for about 15 minutes, the app locks and signs you out, so an unattended till on a counter is not left open. The screen title changes to Session locked.
- Your sale is not lost. Sign back in and your draft basket is waiting exactly as you left it. The lock marks your work; it does not delete it.
- You need only your PIN to return. The app already knows who you are and asks for the PIN alone. A Not you? option hands the phone to a different operator. If you have no PIN set, the app asks for your password instead.
- If the lock happens during an outage, held sales stay on the phone until a connected sign-in reviews them. Nothing is sent on its own.
