Unit codes at the scan

Retail Extensions · checked 2026-10-15

Unit codes at the scan let you sell one individual unit by scanning its own code, with its batch. This page covers what the app adds, what to set up first, and how to remove it.

What it does

The app keeps a list of your units: each one's unique code, its item, its batch and whether it is Available or Sold. When a cashier scans a unit's code and the till finds no item, batch or serial number for it, the till looks the code up in your units and adds that unit's item, with its batch, to the sale. A unit marked Sold is refused at the till.

Selling a unit does not mark it Sold by itself. Mark it in Desk, or connect a service that does.

What you set up first

  1. Install the app from the App library (see About Retail Extensions).
  2. In Desk, search for IVENDNEXT UNC Unit and add your units: each one's Unit code (unique), its Item and, if it has one, its Batch. A Stock Manager can add and edit units; a Stock User can only read them.
  3. In Desk, search for Retail Scan Source, open IVENDNEXT UNC Units and tick Enabled. It installs switched off, and the till ignores it until you do.
  4. Optional: in the same record, choose one of your active line attributes under Record the code as, so that each sale line keeps the scanned code. A line attribute that is not active is refused. Once it is set, the till also refuses a unit that is already in the sale, or already on a sale booked since the unit's record was last changed, and keeps the line to one unit of the unit's own batch. The check runs when the sale is completed; a sale made offline is logged, not refused.

Where it shows

Units

Search Desk for IVENDNEXT UNC Unit. The list shows each unit's code, item, batch and status, and can be filtered on item and status. A unit's Status is Available or Sold.

The scan source IVENDNEXT UNC Units is a record of Retail Scan Source: it tells the till which table holds your codes. The till looks in it after its item, serial number and batch lookups find nothing.

What leaves your shop

Nothing. The app names no outside address, till key, webhook, service or print layout.

How to remove it

  1. In the App library, find the app under Installed and press Details.
  2. On the app's record, press Export and uninstall and confirm. Every unit is exported to a file first.
  3. The record type and the scan source are removed.
