Pick route

Retail Extensions · App · checked 2026-10-18

Pick route adds a button to a submitted sales order in Desk. A stock user presses it, chooses a picker, and a pick task opens with the order's lines in walking order. This page covers what the app adds, how to set it up, where the tasks show, and how to remove it.

What it does

A Stock User or Stock Manager opens a submitted sales order and presses Assign pick route in its Warehouse menu. A dialog asks for a Picker (a colleague's user) and a Priority (Normal or Urgent). The app makes one pick task for the order and opens it. The task shows the order, its customer, the picker, the priority, the pick-by date (the order's delivery date) and the order's lines, ordered by warehouse and then by item.

The task is listed under the order, in its Connections, under Picking. Nothing on the order changes. Pressing again from the same dialog opens the same task instead of making a second one. From the sales order list, the same button runs on up to 20 orders at once: one task for each order.

The button shows only on an order that is To Deliver and Bill or To Deliver. From the list, every order you select must be in one of those states, or the press is refused.

What you set up first

  1. Install the app from the App library (see About Retail Extensions). The install adds the role IVENDNEXT PCK Integration, with no one in it.
  2. Make a user for the app. Tick Is Desk User, give it the role IVENDNEXT PCK Integration alone and save. Then generate its API key: on the user, open Settings and press Generate Keys.
  3. Search Desk for Registered Application and open IVENDNEXT PCK Pick feed. Choose the app's user as its Application User and save. The feed sends nothing; it only tells the app which user to write as.
  4. In the App library, find the app under Installed and press Details. On the app's record, press Connect again. The record then says that it sent the API key of the app's user.
  5. Search Desk for Retail Extension Subscription and open Pick route service. It is installed switched off. Read what it is sent, tick the consent and switch it on.
  6. Search Desk for Retail Desk Action and open Assign pick route. Switch it on.

Where it shows

Everything is in Desk. The button is in the Warehouse menu of a submitted sales order, and in the Actions menu of the sales order list, for the Stock User and Stock Manager roles.

Pick tasks

Search Desk for IVENDNEXT PCK Pick Task, or open a sales order's Connections. Each task shows the order, the customer, the picker, the priority, the pick-by date, a status (Open or Picked) and the lines: each with its stop number, item, quantity and warehouse. Stock Users and Stock Managers can open and update a task, for example to mark it Picked. They cannot make one by hand; the button makes them. A System Manager can do everything with a task.

What leaves your shop

The app's service runs at pick-route.ivendnext.app, hosted by CitiXsys. After the install, your site sends the service its address, the app's key from the App library and the service's signing secret. When you press Connect again, it also sends the API key of the app's user. The service keeps these until you remove the app. Each press sends the service the order's name, its customer (usually a person's name), its warehouse and delivery date, each line's item, quantity and warehouse, the picker and the priority you chose, your own user (both are email addresses), and your language. The service writes the pick task to your shop with the app's user and keeps none of what a press sends.

Limits

  • The lines are ordered by warehouse, then by item, not by bin.
  • A pick task is the app's own record. It is not iVendNext's Pick List: it does not reserve or move stock.
  • Until Connect again has sent the user's key, a press says that Pick route is not set up yet, and makes nothing.
  • One press takes up to 20 orders. A press of more says so and makes nothing.
  • If the service is slow, Desk says it did not answer in time. Check the order's Connections before you press again: the task may already be there. If it is not, wait a minute and press again from the same dialog. After a list press, check each order.

How to remove it

  1. In the App library, find the app under Installed and press Details.
  2. On the app's record, press Export and uninstall and confirm. iVendNext first exports the pick tasks to a file, and tells the service that the app was removed.
  3. iVendNext removes the pick tasks, the button, the service's subscription, the feed and the role.
  4. Make a new API key for the app's user, or disable the user, so the key the service had stops working.
