Price-checker kiosk

Retail Extensions · checked 2026-10-17

Price-checker kiosk puts a price checker on your shop floor. A tablet shows the app's kiosk page. A customer scans an item with a barcode scanner and reads its name, picture and price. This page covers what the app adds, how to set it up, how to open a kiosk on a tablet, and how to remove it.

What it does

The kiosk shows the price on your store's price list for one unit, in the unit that was scanned. It is the same price the till starts from. Promotions are worked out on the whole sale at the till, so the kiosk does not show them. Under every price it says "Any offer is worked out at the till."

Nobody signs in on the tablet. Each tablet has its own kiosk record in Desk, and you switch a kiosk off there. The app reads your shop and writes nothing to it.

What the customer sees for each scan:

The kiosk shows When
The item's name, unit, picture and price The item has a price on the store's price list.
"We could not find this item." No item has that barcode.
"This item has no price here." The item has no price on the store's price list.
"This item is not on sale." The item is disabled, or past its end of life.
"This kiosk is not set up." The kiosk is switched off, its code is wrong, or the app's user has not been sent yet.
"Price checks are not available right now." The service cannot reach your shop.

What you set up first

  1. Install the app from the App library (see About Retail Extensions). The install adds the role IVENDNEXT PRC Integration, with no one in it.
  2. Make a user for the app. Tick Is Desk User, give it the role IVENDNEXT PRC Integration alone and save. Then generate its API key: on the user, open Settings and press Generate Keys. The role needs no other rights.
  3. Search Desk for Registered Application and open IVENDNEXT PRC Kiosk feed. Choose the app's user as its Application User and save.
  4. In the App library, find the app under Installed and press Details. On the app's record, press Connect again. The record then says that it sent the API key of the app's user. Until you do, every kiosk says it is not set up.
  5. Make a kiosk record for each tablet (below).

Kiosk

Search Desk for IVENDNEXT PRC Kiosk and press Add. Only a System Manager can add or change these records, unless you give another role rights on them in Role Permissions Manager.

Field What to enter
"Where it stands" A name for the place, for example Aisle 4, by the door.
"Switched on" Ticked by default. Untick it to stop this kiosk. It says it is not set up within a minute.
"Till profile" The store's till profile. The kiosk shows the price on its price list.

When you save, the record takes its company, price list, currency, walk-in customer and store from the till profile. If you change the till profile's price list later, save the kiosk again.

The record's name is a random code of 10 letters and digits. The tablet's address carries it.

Open a kiosk on a tablet

On the tablet, open this address in full screen:

https://price-checker.ivendnext.app/#shop=<your site>&kiosk=<the kiosk's name>

For <your site>, enter your site's address as the App library shows it, under "This site's key address". For <the kiosk's name>, enter the kiosk record's name. Connect a barcode scanner to the tablet as a keyboard (USB or Bluetooth), then scan an item to check.

Anyone who has a kiosk's address can check prices at that store, as anyone standing in it can. Switch the kiosk off to stop the address.

What leaves your shop

The app's service runs at price-checker.ivendnext.app, hosted by CitiXsys. After the install, and when you press Connect again, your site sends the service its key from the App library, its address, and the API key of the app's user.

For each scan the service asks your shop, with that key, for the barcode and then for the item's price. Your shop's answer carries the item's details, such as its name, unit, picture, price, description, item group, brand and accounts, and the store's stock figures. The kiosk shows only the name, unit, picture and price, and the service keeps none of it.

Limits

  • The kiosk shows the price list price. A promotion, a customer's own price and a price rule are not shown.
  • Someone who knows your site's address can send many made-up kiosk codes. While they do, a real kiosk may say "Please wait a moment and scan again."
  • A kiosk keeps working for up to a minute after you switch it off.

How to remove it

  1. In the App library, find the app under Installed and press Details.
  2. On the app's record, press Export and uninstall and confirm. iVendNext first exports every kiosk record to a file, and tells the service that the app was removed.
  3. iVendNext removes the kiosk records, the feed registration and the role. Every kiosk address stops working.
  4. Make a new API key for the app's user, or disable the user, so the key the service had stops working.
