A gift card is a prepaid amount a customer can spend at your stores. The till sells a gift card like any other item, and the receipt shows the card's number. A gift card carries a specific amount of money that can be used at the Store to make purchases.
A gift card is either System Generated or User Defined. It pays for part or all of a sale at the till.
Every Gift Card issued in iVendNext carries a unique number and depending on the customer's preference, can either be redeemed partially or in full.
You create a gift card as an item in the Retail workspace.
What a gift card does
A gift card has a number, a balance and, if you set one, an expiry date. The card lives in your back office as a Gift Card record. The customer keeps the number from the receipt.
Number
A System Generated card gets its number when the till sells it. For a User Defined card, the cashier types the number, and the sale is one card at a time.
Balance
The customer can spend all of the balance or a part of it. The card keeps the rest for a later sale. When the card allows it, the cashier can add money to it at the till.
Expiry
You choose a number of days on the card's item. A card with 0 days does not expire. After its expiry date, the till refuses the card at payment, and it shows on the Expired Gift Cards report.
Options on the item
On the item's Gift Card Detail tab you can switch on Use as Store Credit, Cashback, Recharge, Open Price, Must Swipe Card and Allow Multiple Redemptions. Create Gift Cards explains each one.
Reports
The Retail workspace has a Gift Cards group with Gift Card Type, Gift Card Journal and Expired Gift Cards.
