A void removes a line, or a whole sale, before it is booked. There are two kinds, with deliberately different rules: a line void and a whole-sale void. A sale that has already booked cannot be voided at all; it goes to a return instead.
Voiding a line
Removing a line from a live basket is governed by its own permission, with an authority ladder. You raise the void from the basket. See Editing the Basket.
- Inside your own authority, the void applies at once and leaves an audited record. The priced document re-works through your store's system rather than being re-added on the phone.
- Beyond your authority, the server refuses and the phone escalates to a manager. The approval binds the request type, who asked, the outlet, the item, and the quantity and amount at the moment it was granted. If the basket changes, the approval is no longer valid, and the phone asks for it again.
Every accumulated void record is re-checked at both preview and submit, so what you previewed and what you submit cannot differ.
A line void does not ask for a reason. That is deliberate parity with iVendNext Desk, which prompts for nothing on a line void either.
Voiding a whole sale
Voiding the whole basket is governed by a separate permission from the line void.
- A reason is asked for only where your store both requires a void reason and keeps voided transactions. Where either is switched off, no reason is asked.
- One inert audit record is kept where your store keeps voided transactions. It is folded together with any line voids on the same basket, so a sale leaves one record rather than several. Where your store does not keep them, nothing is recorded.
- A sale that has already booked is never voided. The app refuses and sends you to a return instead. See Returning With a Receipt.
- A sale attempt already carrying another pending document is refused before anything moves, rather than colliding part-way through.
When the connection is down
A void is refused while the phone is offline. Both the audit record and the checks a void depends on need the server, so the void cannot be made and is not queued for later. The alternative during an outage is to hold the sale. What still works offline is covered in Working Offline.
