Click and Collect

This page covers the collection queue, where orders a customer will pick up are moved along, and holding a sale so a colleague or a register can finish it. Both keep a promise you made to the customer moving through the store, and both need a connection.

The collection queue

The collection queue is the store's live list of orders waiting to be picked up, including pickup and curbside orders. It is scoped to this store, and it moves in one direction only: picking, then ready, then handed over.

  • Each order shows the next step. A runner or a stockroom colleague picks the order, marks it ready, and then hands it over when the customer arrives.
  • Slot detail is there for the person picking. Open an order to see what to pick.
  • Tapping a step that is not next is refused, and the message reminds you of the order.
  • Tapping the same step twice does nothing. There is no duplicate entry and no second alert to your colleagues. This is deliberate, because two people often work the queue at the same time.
  • An order from another store cannot be handed over until its delivery step has run, because that step is where the unit is scanned and the money is collected.

When an order becomes ready, the app can alert your own store staff that it is waiting. It does not contact the customer; the alert reaches store staff only.

The collection queue is empty when the phone is offline, on purpose. It shows every till's orders in real time, and a snapshot taken earlier could not tell you the truth about them.

Holding a sale and handing it over

You can hold a sale part-way through and come back to it. When you hold a sale, it is kept on the store's system, not on your phone. That is what makes it possible to finish it somewhere else.

  • You can pick it up again on a different device.
  • A colleague on shift in your store can be offered the held sale and resume it on their own device.
  • A register in the same store can recall and settle the very same sale from its own suspended list.

There is no export step and no bridge between the phone and the register. It is one document that either can open.

A few rules keep this orderly:

  • Whoever held the sale is the one who can offer it or cancel it. Cancelling asks for a reason.
  • The colleague you hand a sale to has to be on shift in your store, and resuming a sale needs your own shift open.
  • Held sales going to different places cannot be resumed together. When one is for delivery and one is not, bringing them back as a single basket would lose that difference, so you resume them one at a time.
  • A held sale and a sale parked for a register are different things. A parked sale is waiting to be settled at that register, and hold actions do not apply to it.
  • You can reprint the slip for a held sale whenever you need to. It is a reprint by design, not a one-time slip.

Holding a sale depends on one store setting, suspend and recall, which ships on. When your business turns it off, held sales are switched off entirely, including sales that are already held. A sale left that way comes back when the setting is turned on again.
