Retail Extensions · checked 2026-10-17
Till guard rules puts the common checks before payment in one app. It stops a line at a placeholder price and a line with too much of one item, checks a large sale with the cashier or a manager, and asks a question when the cashier scans an item you flagged. Each rule is off until you set it. This page covers what the app adds, how to set your rules, how to switch it on, and how to remove it.
What it does
When the cashier presses Pay, your shop sends the priced sale to the app's service. The service reads your settings and answers before the payment screen opens.
| The cashier sees | When |
|---|---|
| The payment screen, as always | No rule applies to the sale. |
| "This sale can't be paid", with "Line ⟨n⟩: ⟨item⟩ is priced ⟨price⟩. Correct its price before the sale is paid." | A line is priced above 0 and at or below your placeholder price. A free line, priced 0, is never refused. Nothing is paid. |
| "This sale can't be paid", with "Line ⟨n⟩: ⟨quantity⟩ of ⟨item⟩. The most on one line is ⟨most⟩." | A line has more of one item than you allow. Nothing is paid. |
| A Yes or No question: "This sale is ⟨amount⟩ or more. Has a manager agreed to it?" | The total the customer pays is at or above your approval amount, and you chose ask. No goes back to the sale. |
| "Sales of ⟨amount⟩ or more need a manager's approval.", and a manager who is not the cashier signs in on the till | The total the customer pays is at or above your approval amount, and you chose approve. |
| The sale goes on, and is flagged on Sales to review | The service did not answer in time, or it has not been sent the app's user yet. A ticked item scanned then goes on the sale without its question. |
When the cashier scans an item whose Confirm at the till when scanned is ticked, the till beeps and asks "⟨item⟩: ⟨your question⟩". No leaves the item off the sale.
A return is checked only for the items it sells, as in an exchange, by the price and quantity rules; on a return the till says "This refund can't go ahead" instead of "This sale can't be paid". What a return takes back is never checked. The approval amount is compared with the total the customer pays: on an exchange, what it sells less what it takes back. The app reads your settings and writes nothing to your shop.
What you set up first
- Install the app from the App library (see About Retail Extensions). The install adds the role IVENDNEXT TGR Integration, with no one in it, and a tick Confirm at the till when scanned on each item. Both services come in switched off.
- Make a user for the app. Tick Is Desk User, give it the role IVENDNEXT TGR Integration alone and save. Then generate its API key: on the user, open Settings and press Generate Keys. The role needs no other rights.
- Search Desk for Registered Application and open IVENDNEXT TGR Guard. Choose the app's user as its Application User and save.
- In the App library, find the app under Installed and press Details. On the app's record, press Connect again. The record then says that it sent the API key of the app's user.
- Set your rules (below), and tick Confirm at the till when scanned on each item the cashier should be asked about.
- Switch the services on (below).
Settings
Search Desk for IVENDNEXT TGR Settings and press Add. The service reads the record named Default, so keep that title. A blank or 0 switches a rule off.
| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| A line priced at or below this is refused | Your placeholder price, such as 0.01. A free line, priced 0, is never refused. |
| Most of one item on a line | The most of one item on a single line. A promotion may split one item across two lines; each line counts alone. |
| Sales of this amount or more need a manager | The total the customer pays that needs a manager's yes. |
| How a large sale is checked | ask: the cashier answers Yes or No. approve: a manager who is not the cashier signs in on the till (see A manager's approval below). |
| The question on a flagged item | Asked when a ticked item is scanned. Blank: "Check this item before it goes on the sale. Add it?" |
- Amounts are one number, used in whatever currency the sale is in.
- The service reads your settings again within a minute of a change.
Switch the services on
- Search Desk for Retail Extension Subscription. Open Till guard rules (at Pay) and Till guard: confirm item (at the scan).
- On each, read what it is sent, and tick the consent.
- Choose the stores it answers. With none chosen, it answers every store.
- Switch it on and save.
A manager's approval
To use approve, first give your managers May Approve a Partner's Check on their Retail Permission, and write access to Retail Override Request. Then tick May ask for a manager's approval on Till guard rules. Without the tick, an approve answer is not used and the sale goes on, flagged.
What leaves your shop
The app's service runs at till-guard.ivendnext.app, hosted by CitiXsys. After the install, and when you press Connect again, your site sends the service its key from the App library, its address, the signing keys of the two services, and the API key of the app's user.
At each Pay your shop sends the priced sale: each line's item code, item group, quantity and amounts, the totals, the customer and their customer group, the coupons, the sale details the cashier captured and the payment methods offered. At the scan of a ticked item it sends that line, the sale's reference, the store, the till, the cashier and the customer. No card details are sent. With the app's user, the service also reads your IVENDNEXT TGR Settings record. It writes nothing to your shop.
Limits
- A settings change can take up to a minute to apply.
- Until Connect again has sent the app's user, and whenever the service does not answer, sales go on and are flagged for review.
- Offline, the till cannot ask the service, so it acts as when the service does not answer (above).
- After you install the app again, give its user the role IVENDNEXT TGR Integration again, then press Connect again.
How to remove it
- In the App library, find the app under Installed and press Details.
- On the app's record, press Export and uninstall and confirm. iVendNext first exports your settings record to a file, and tells the service that the app was removed.
- iVendNext removes the two services, the settings, the tick on items, the feed registration and the role.
- Make a new API key for the app's user, or disable the user, so the key the service had stops working.
