Setting up a duty-free store
Travel retail and duty free · checked 2026-10-24
This guide takes a duty-free store from the first conversation to a live store. An iVendNext partner in your region usually runs these steps with you. A team with its own developers can run them itself. iVendNext gives the product, the apps and a guide at every step.
Check the fit
Put your own list of requirements against the apps in Travel retail and duty free on iVendNext. What the apps meet unchanged is ready. The rest is set-up or an extension.
Set up the shop
Set up stores, tills, prices and users as you would for any retailer. Then link your ERP: iVendNext connects to SAP Business One, SAP S/4HANA, Acumatica, NetSuite and Sage X3, and your partner connects any other ERP with the partner kit. For Acumatica and WooCommerce, see the Integration Core guide.
Make it duty free
Set your airports, whether you sell to departing or arriving passengers, and the airport's hours from UTC. Set an allowance and its measure on each limited item group, and an age on each restricted group.
Set up the hardware
Put scanners that read boarding passes and barcodes at each counter. Connect cash drawers, receipt printers and customer displays with Counter hardware. Try your own hardware with your partner before you go live.
Install the apps
Install Duty-free allowance and boarding pass, the Age-restricted sale check, Members-only check before payment and your market's receipt (UAE tax invoice receipt) from the App library. Switch the allowance check on for your airport stores' tills only.
Load your data
Load items with their units, barcodes and measures, such as 0.75 for a 75 cl bottle. Load item groups with their allowances and ages, and your members-only rules.
Train your staff and go live
Go live store by store: cashiers, supervisors, the stockroom and store managers.
Day to day
Your partner supports what it delivers. iVendNext supports the product. The daily work at the till is in iVendNext POS, starting with Starting your day.
