Reconnecting and Sending Held Sales

When the connection returns, nothing posts on its own. Reconnecting refreshes the status and tells you there is work waiting. Held sales stay on the phone until the operator signs in again and sends them.

Sign in again

The operator signs in again before any held sale can be sent. This step is deliberate and cannot be skipped. Until it happens, held sales stay on the phone and nothing is sent by itself.

The sign-in screen after the connection returned, announcing one held sale and stating that nothing is sent by itself.

The held sales on a phone are kept per operator. You see and send your own held sales on this phone, not a colleague's. Even when the phone is signed out during an outage, the held sales stay on it.

Sending the held sales

Once signed in, the held sales are sent, one at a time or as a batch. For each held sale, the store's system rebuilds it from the record and compares its own figure to what the customer was charged. Sales that match post straight through. A batch action posts all the clean sales together.

The reconnected review screen: one sale matches exactly, with the control to post it.

Sending twice is safe. If a sale posted but the confirmation never reached the phone, sending again finds the sale that already exists rather than creating a second one.

Reviewing the ones that need a person

A held sale that does not match is shown as an exception with its own plain reason. A manager posts it or discards it. A held sale that was composed offline leaves an audit record when it is discarded. A held receipt or a parked cart is discarded locally with no record.

The reasons a held sale routes to review include:

  • The figure the system computes differs from what was charged.
  • The trading day the sale belongs to was closed while the phone was away.
  • The phone's clock is too far from the server's, or it recorded no time at all.
  • The card slip has already been used on another sale.
  • The provisional reference is already on a posted sale.
  • A discount is beyond what that operator is allowed.
  • A lot no longer has enough stock.
  • A permission the operator had at the time has since been withdrawn.
