Pharmacy: chain store

Released 2026-11-06 · Pharmacy

The pharmacy chain store is ready for a chain in Nigeria to run on iVendNext POS. Each store has two counters: the dispensary, where a pharmacist sells medicine, and the front of store, where a cashier sells everything else. This note says what it does today and what is still being built. The full list is What iVendNext offers a pharmacy chain.

What it does today

  • The lot that expires first. The till proposes it, or enforces it: another lot needs a manager and a reason. A minimum of days left can be set.
  • A recall in one press. Expiry and recall blocks the lot at every online till, shows each store's stock of it and lists the customers it was sold to. The till leaves a recalled lot out of the lot pick and refuses it at Pay, and every stock document that sends stock out refuses it. Recalled stock moves to a quarantine store.
  • Prescription and pharmacist. Pharmacy counter rules pays a prescription line only against a valid prescription with fills left, sold by a pharmacist whose license is in date. A controlled sale needs the patient's ID. At Pay the check fills the prescription's date, and the dispensing label prints from the basket line with the dose. A daily prescriptions register prints.
  • The controlled-drug register. Each controlled sale and goods-in writes its line in the same save, numbered and never edited. Nigeria's Part A and Part B print for any dates, for signing each day.
  • The insurer's share at Pay. The cashier adds the payer, and the insurer's share is split from the customer's, owed by the insurer. The claims clerk builds the claims, makes the claims file and matches the payer's remittance.
  • Quarantine and disposal. Where you choose it, controlled stock is disposed of only with the regulator's visit on record.
  • Near-expiry stock. Each store sees its lots near their expiry date, and Expiry markdown lowers their price on the item groups you may discount.
  • The age check. ID is asked at the scan of goods with an age limit, and Pay is refused without it.
  • The dispensary and the front of store. The dispensary's till sells online only. A prescription line rung at the front of store is refused there, to be sold at the dispensary.
  • Returns. A dispensed medicine is not taken back where its schedule refuses returns.
  • Your own ERP. Connectors to SAP Business One, SAP S/4HANA, Acumatica, NetSuite and Sage X3; goods-in can stay in your ERP and the register still writes its purchase line.

Good to know

  • This release was walked in Nigeria, on a chain with two stores, a warehouse and a quarantine store, with VAT at 7.5% on non-medicines and 0% on medicines.
  • Pharmacy counter rules and Expiry and recall come with a key from iVendNext in Mexico, Nigeria and Ghana, and Third-party payer in Nigeria and Ghana; their services run on iVendNext hosting in the United States. The Regulated stock register is free and runs in your own site. Elsewhere your partner installs and hosts them.
  • A recalled lot is left out of the lot pick and refused at Pay; the cashier takes it off the sale.
  • The dispensing label prints once the dispensary's roles may print labels; the counter rules guide says how.

Being built

  • The till refusing a recalled lot the moment it is scanned, with the reason in plain words.
