What iVendNext offers a travel retail chain
Travel retail and duty free · checked 2026-11-08
This page lists what a travel retail and duty free chain can use in iVendNext today. The format is the Travel retail and duty free chain: a chain of airport and travel stores, such as a departures duty-free store and a landside store in the same terminal. Every store runs the same till, the iVendNext POS at /pos, on a phone, a tablet or a register. The stock officer works on iVendNext Handheld, and head office works in iVendNext Desk.
Every part below is in the till or in the App library today, or is added by a partner, as its last column says. Each part says who uses it, what it rests on and where you can have it. To set the parts up, follow Setting up a duty-free store. For the apps a store turns on, see Travel retail and duty free on iVendNext.
What you get in a travel retail and duty free chain
| What the chain needs | Who uses it | What it rests on | Where you can have it |
|---|---|---|---|
| The boarding pass on the sale | Cashier | Duty-free allowance and boarding pass: the cashier scans the passenger's boarding pass into Sale details on the basket. A keyboard scanner types it in, and on a phone or tablet whose camera the till can use, a button beside the field scans it with the camera. The pass stays on the sale. It is not printed on the receipt unless you tick Print on the receipt on the sale detail, because it carries the passenger's name. | App library, free, in every country: its service runs on CitiXsys hosting in the United States. |
| The airport and the day checked at Pay | Cashier | The same app, on the till's check before Pay: the sale is refused when there is no pass, when the pass cannot be read, when no flight on it leaves from (or, for an arrivals store, lands at) your store's airports, or when the flight is on another day. A departures store takes today's and tomorrow's flights. | As above. |
| Each passenger's allowance, counted across their sales | Cashier, store manager | The same app: an allowance per passenger on each item group that has a customs limit, such as spirits in litres or tobacco in cigarettes, and how much each item counts toward it, such as 0.75 for a 75 cl bottle. The allowance counts the passenger's earlier sales on the same pass, and a return gives its items back. | As above. The chain sets the allowances. |
| The age check on liquor and tobacco | Cashier | Age-restricted sale check: ID asked at the scan of goods with an age limit, and Pay refused without it. | App library, free, in every country, on CitiXsys hosting. |
| Tax-free in a duty-free store, sales tax in a landside store | Cashier, head office | The till's tax, set on each store: a duty-free store can sell tax-free and a landside store can charge the sales tax of its city. A line takes its tax from its item's tax template first, and from the store's warehouse where the item has none, so give travel items no tax template of their own. See Important Retail Settings. | The till, in every country; set up in iVendNext Desk. |
| Goods in and transfer to the store | Stock officer | A warehouse of its own for duty-free stock, goods received into it against a purchase order, and a transfer of stock from it to the store's warehouse. See Receive stock and Move stock on iVendNext Handheld. A stock count is on the same device: Count stock. | iVendNext Handheld comes with a key from iVendNext. The warehouses and the transfer are also in iVendNext Desk. |
| Returns and exchanges | Cashier, store manager | The till takes a return with the receipt, and a return without one with a manager. An exchange is one visit: the goods come back, the replacement is picked, and the difference is paid or credited. A refund is not checked against the pass, and an exchange is checked for what it sells. See Returning With a Receipt and Exchanges. Refund rules pays a refund back the way the sale was paid. | The till, in every country. Refund rules: App library, free, in every country. |
| Promotions, loyalty and gift cards | Cashier, store manager | The till's promotions: percent off, amount off, and buy one get one. Gift cards sold and redeemed at the till; Gift card on spend gives a customer your own gift card when a sale reaches your threshold. Loyalty points earned and spent at the till, with the member's balance in view during the sale, come from iVendNext Loyalty. See Promotions, Coupons and Discounts. | Promotions and gift cards: the till, in every country. Gift card on spend: App library, free, in every country, on CitiXsys hosting. iVendNext Loyalty comes with a key from iVendNext. |
| Web orders collected in the store | Cashier, store staff | The till's collection queue, where a picked order is moved to ready and then handed over. Click and collect gives each store its lists of web orders to pick and orders waiting for their customer in Desk. See Click and Collect. | The till, in every country. Click and collect: App library, free, in every country. |
| Your web store | Head office | The WooCommerce connection: products, prices and stock go to the web store, and paid web orders, payments and refunds come back. See Connections. | Comes with a key from iVendNext, in every country. |
| The customs ledger | Compliance | A partner adds your customs ledger to the Regulated stock register app as a data set. The app writes one numbered line with each sale or receipt, and never edits it. | Partner. The register app is free in the App library. |
| The chain's own ERP | Head office | Connectors to SAP Business One, SAP S/4HANA, Acumatica, NetSuite and Sage X3. | Every country. Any other ERP is connected by a partner or your own developers. |
The checks on a till profile share 10 seconds at each Pay. A departures profile with Duty-free allowance and boarding pass and the Age-restricted sale check runs both. If the service for the duty-free check or the age check does not answer in time, or the till is offline, the sale goes on and is flagged for review. The members-only check refuses the sale when its service does not answer.
The rest of this page says what every app in the library adds and what a partner adds.
Every app in the library
The App library has apps for every kind of chain. A travel retail chain adds the ones its stores need. Members-only check before payment refuses a members-only item for a customer who is not a member and asks for ID on a sale at or above your limit. UAE tax invoice receipt lays the receipt out as a UAE tax invoice, for the stores of a chain in the United Arab Emirates. Required sale details refuses Pay when a detail you chose is empty.
What a partner or your own team adds
An iVendNext partner in your region, or your own developers, sets up and extends what these parts do not cover. Examples are your customs ledger on the register app, extra reports, and links to systems not listed above. They can copy the apps and change them. See How to customize.
For the order a store is set up in, see Setting up a duty-free store.
