Bin locations

Retail Extensions · App · checked 2026-10-17

Bin locations let you write down where each item sits in your store. You record the locations, the aisles in them, the bins in each aisle and a note of what is in each bin. At the till, a key called Where is it? tells the cashier which bin has each item on the sale. This page says what the app does, who uses it and what it does not do. The other pages of this section are Set it up, Using it every day, Troubleshooting and Removing it.

What it does

The app keeps your locations, such as a back room or the shop floor. It keeps the aisles in each location, the bins in each aisle and a note of what sits in each bin. It gives each item a default bin, and it includes a label layout for each bin.

The app does not move or count stock. What you record in a bin is a note of where things sit. Your stock and its value stay in iVendNext, and a sale, a receipt or a transfer does not change a bin. If you need bins that follow your stock, use child warehouses with a Putaway Rule and a Pick List in iVendNext instead.

The till key Where is it? reads your notes. For each item on the sale, it names a shop-floor bin of the till's store first, else a back-room bin. It reads only What is in each bin, not the item's default bin. A service hosted by CitiXsys answers the key.

Who uses it

People with the Retail Manager or Stock Manager role can add, change and delete every record. A System Manager can do the same. Cashiers use the till key. The app's own user, which you make, lets the service read your locations and what is in each bin.

What you set up first

See Set it up. You set up the warehouses first, then locations, aisles and bins, and then a default bin for an item. For the till key, you also make the app's user and switch the key on in POS Studio.

Where it shows

  • In Desk, the IVENDNEXT BLN Bins page in the sidebar has shortcuts to Locations, Bins and What is in each bin. It has no shortcut to aisles. To find an aisle, search Desk for IVENDNEXT BLN Aisle, or open a bin and follow its Aisle.
  • On items, the app adds a field, Default bin (bin locations). You can also filter the item list on it.
  • For printing, a bin has a label layout, IVENDNEXT BLN Bin Label, meant to carry its code, aisle and location. When you choose it, you see an error. See Troubleshooting.

The IVENDNEXT BLN Bins page with the shortcuts Locations, Bins and What is in each bin

  • At the till, the key Where is it? shows a short message with the bin of each item on the sale. A store switches it on in POS Studio.

What leaves your shop

Each press of Where is it? sends the sale to a service hosted by CitiXsys at bins.ivendnext.app. It sends the sale's items, quantities and units, the till's store and profile, the company and currency, and the sale's reference. It also sends the cashier's user, which is their email address, and the customer on the sale, usually by name. It sends no prices, totals or payments.

The service reads your locations and what is in each bin with the app's own user. It writes nothing to your shop. The bin label is a print layout, which runs inside your site when it prints.

How to remove it
